1. Bananas Are Berries, but Strawberries Aren’t

Botanically speaking, bananas qualify as berries, while strawberries do not.

A true berry develops from a single flower with one ovary and typically contains seeds within its fleshy interior. Bananas fit this botanical definition, even though they do not resemble the small berries people usually imagine.

Strawberries are classified differently because the part we eat develops from several parts of the flower. The tiny seed-like structures visible on the outside are actually individual fruits called achenes.

So the everyday meaning of “berry” and the scientific definition are very different.

This means that a fruit salad can contain a botanical berry that looks nothing like what most people consider a berry.

2. Octopuses Have Three Hearts

An octopus has three hearts, and each one plays a role in its unusual circulatory system.

Two hearts pump blood toward the gills, where oxygen is absorbed. The third heart then pumps oxygenated blood throughout the rest of the body.

There is another strange detail. When an octopus swims, the main heart responsible for circulating blood around the body stops beating.

Your skin, blood, intestinal lining, and other tissues undergo continuous processes of cell replacement.

This does not mean that every cell in your body is completely replaced on one fixed schedule.

Instead, your body is a constantly changing biological system in which old cells die, new cells form, and tissues repair themselves.

You may look like the same person from one day to the next, but at the microscopic level, your body is continuously rebuilding and maintaining itself.
